Numberblocks Is a Show that Teaches Math
With this British kid show, your kid will be a budding mathematician in no time.
There are a lot of different ways to teach math, but one show has been tremendously helpful. If you have a toddler who is ready to learn math, open up an iPad, click on Netflix, and fire up the show Numberblocks.
The mathematical show is also on YouTube. Here’s what an episode is like:
It is a British show with 90 episodes that teaches counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It has fun songs that show how blocks can be added together, providing a fun way to visually demonstrate the fundamental concepts of math.
Learning math occurs in stages. From my observation, a child must learn how to count from one to ten, then from one to one hundred, and then to a thousand and so on. Once this is done, the child can learn how to do simple addition and subtraction. Multiplication can be introduced once the child is comfortable with the numbers one to one hundred. And naturally, division will follow multiplication.
The other secret is to constantly talk about math as often as you’d talk about the weather or the kid’s favorite toy. Why? Because practice makes perfect, right?
According to a study on repetition and learning, the authors concluded that:
Repetition will help with muscle memory and help solidify the building blocks Numberblocks has laid in place.
