Capture Memories From Your Child's Perspective
I always thought putting a GoPro on my kid would be a fun idea, but it has proven to be much better than I had imagined.
The GoPro Hero10 Black strapped to my child’s chest when he runs has opened my eyes to how he sees the world. He enjoys being the “cameraman” and I enjoy watching his arms wave in front of him as he runs around and navigates his surroundings.
When I am reviewing the footage, I am always surprised by how much of his conversations I normally wouldn’t hear - and feel fortunate that when he is eager to wear the GoPro, I can hear what goes on when I am not within earshot.
But what’s even better than the camera itself is the app that connects the GoPro to your iPhone called Quik. Not only is it an easy way to remotely control the GoPro, after you finish filming, you can easily transfer footage from the GoPro to your iPhone. Another feature that I appreciate is the automatic highlight one that can also match the clips to the beat of the music you pick.
The app also has themed edits, so you can have an opening title graphic that matches the rest of the transitions throughout the footage. You can set how long you want the video to be and also add filters to one or all of the clips. Of course, I do prefer Adobe Premiere or similar video editing software for more comprehensive edits. But for simple recaps of a family adventure, GoPro Quik provides a way to quickly edit together a fun video to share with family and friends.
If you do decide to get a GoPro, then you should consider getting a better memory card because the one that is sent with the GoPro isn’t fast enough. And you should consider which accessories you might need such as the chest strap and tripod. It does say it is waterproof, but I haven’t dared to try it yet. One thing I will order soon is an extra battery. The battery does tend to drain quickly, so it’s highly recommended you keep the GoPro fully charged before you take it with you on an adventure.
If you don’t feel like getting a GoPro, you can get a similar effect if you use your phone camera and just bend down more to get on the same level as your child to share their eye level perspective.
